Have you heard of Parkinson’s Law?
It is simply that the work will expand to fill the time given. This is also how we got to, “If you need something done, give it to a busy person.”
Do you ever complete your work day and wondered where all of the time went?
Last week we were introduced to the TWO DO list where we focus on the two most important items and accomplish those first.
This week we are working on prioritizing the time to actually complete the TWO DO list.
My simple answer: Block 9am – 11am…every day.
This is when I hear, “But I can’t do that!”
Well, have you tried? And yes, there may be an immovable standing meeting on one or two of those mornings, but three mornings are better than none right?
And if 9am – 11am won’t work at all, find a 90-minute to 2-hour block that you will actually honor and when your energy is high. You are doing important work during this block.
And if you need to communicate this new block on your calendar to your team and/or your boss, do it. You can tell them you are experimenting with a new calendaring blocking strategy.
What is possible for you when your two most important items are complete?
- More headspace?
- Improved listening?
- More agility and flexibility?
- Progress?
A new level of positive energy awaits you when you know that you are advancing your most important work.
And when people around you see how many important projects you are able to move forward due to your intentional time blocking…you will encourage others to do the same.
There is no harm in trying right? Take two weeks and try it, then reach out and let me know what learnings you have from prioritizing your TWO DO list!
Always in your corner,
Megan
