Parisian Leadership Lessons: How the City of Light Illuminated My Leadership Style

Leadership coach in Paris with the Eiffel Tower in the background, reflecting on leadership and systems

Bonjour, my mighty leaders!

Just recently, I had the honor of wandering through the enchanting, cobblestone streets of Paris.

Ah, Paris! The city renowned for its rich culture, mesmerizing art, and deep-rooted history, transformed into an unexpected mentor in leadership and personal development.

How, you wonder?

Let me enlighten you.

One of the most striking revelations from my trip?

Their unwavering commitment to systems that support people!

Take their public transportation, for instance. A vast network of metros, suburban trains, buses, and even a funicular – efficiently whisking us to every destination on our list for a weekly flat rate.

Clean. Efficient. User-friendly.

It moves millions of people around the city each day. In fact, it was one of the highlights of our trip.

I may not know the intricacies of designing the Paris metro or the intricate web of funding and political conversations that brought it to fruition. What I do know is that it was crafted to support workers, businesses, and families. To provide a safe and reliable way to get from Point A to Point B.

This got me thinking.

Investing in systems. It’s easy to put it off, isn’t it?

The time. The patience. The resources to get it over the finish line. It’s a daunting task.

But pause for a moment.

Consider what happens when a good system is NOT implemented. Things get dropped. Employees resort to workarounds, leading to frustration. Work and productivity slow down.

Now, let’s flip the question.

What system are YOU committed to support your team? A system that allows efficiency, that creates room for innovation?

If you’re thinking about how your systems support your people, reach out here and let me know.

Remember, just like a city needs a robust system to function, so does your team.

Just like Paris.

Always in your corner,

Megan
